I used to work next door to a CVS. Literally, right next door. It was awesome. There was an entire wall of candy over there just waiting for me. It never had to wait long though. I was over there constantly. The cashiers knew me by name. Instead of saying “have a nice day” they’d say “see you tomorrow.” And it was true, because I always found myself over there for something.
One day I was sitting at my desk and I thought “I could really go for some pistachios and chocolate milk.” Because you know, I’m kind of insane. Over in the nut section I met a sweet old man who commented on the frigid weather, and somehow we ended up chatting about his experiences serving our country during WWII. It was fascinating the way he talked about it. So matter-of-fact, like it was no big deal he spent night after night sleeping in a hole he dug himself. In the middle of winter, no less.
I liked CVS even more after that day. Just because.
