A day at the fair

September 25, 2013      9 Comments

Last month my parents came for a visit and our number one priority was the fair.

The Minnesota State Fair!

We live mere minutes from the fairgrounds so it would have practically been a crime if we didn’t go check it out.  Plus, let’s face it, it’s not hard to ply me with fried foods.

Now, you’ll have to forgive me, because I was totally not in “get pictures for the blog” mode that day.  I was just having fun with my family.  Plus it was hot so the rest of my free time was spent soaking up boob sweat.  I know you’ve been there.

We decided to park at a local church and take a free shuttle to the fairgrounds, which seemed a little ridiculous at first, since we live so close, but it was totally the right decision.  When we got there and saw the mass of people and cars, I was so thankful we were on a shuttle that basically dropped us off right at the gates.

Wyatt might have been more impressed if we hadn’t woken him up early:

And seriously, it was still mid-morning when we got there, but I could not wait to find something fried to stuff in my face.  So, cheese curds it was!  I’m not kidding. I had cheese curds for breakfast.  I did not regret my decision.  I also inhaled them so there’s no picture.  I’m a terrible blogger.

We walked around a bit and found our way over to the animal buildings.  It’s not the fair if you don’t take in the scent of cows and pigs.  Am I right?

At this point we made the decision to find more food.  We just had to make one pit stop first:

You guys. Seriously.

Wine slushy

I resisted to the urge to ask if they sell it by the gallon.

Now, if you’ve ever been to a fair or festival with me, you know I have to get a corn dog. It’s a requirement. Do you know what they had?  Double bacon corn dogs.

Did you hear me?  I said double bacon corn dogs.  It was a hot dog wrapped in bacon then dipped in batter with bacon pieces in it.

Come on.

It was seriously hot at this point and I had both wine and corn dog swimming around in my belly so I made the executive decision to just stop eating.  Even though every food stand we passed was sort of shouting catcalls at me.  Do you know how hard it is to resist a funnel cake telling you how great you’d look with powdered sugar all over your face?

It’s torture.

By mid-afternoon the crowds of people were getting a little intense so we grabbed an overflowing bucket of cookies (seriously, I’m pissed I didn’t get a picture of how many cookies were in that bucket) from Sweet Martha’s and hauled it backed to the shuttle.

It was a really great, hot, fun, delicious day.

It looks like a fun time! I’m jealous that you can drink at your fair. And now I’m craving corn dogs and cookies.

All I saw was wine slushy and double bacon corn dogs. And boob sweat. Oh lawdy boob sweat is the worst, especially when you have a cup size larger than a B.

Glad you had a good time despite the heat. Trust me, I can relate. There’s more humidity than usual here in Vegas and it sucks. I’ll stay inside with the air conditioning on full blast thank ya much.

Wyatt doesn’t look too impressed with the fair in that first photo. The bacon corn dog has me drooling and it’s only 8:30 am.
