Homeschool Goodwill Finds: October 2018

I had a dentist appointment this afternoon and decided since I would be so close to a Goodwill I’d stop procrastinating and finally drop off the donations that have been hanging out in the back of my car for who knows how many weeks. Not that I’m a procrastinator or anything.

And since I was there and there was no rush to get home I figured, what the heck, I’ll go have a look around too and see what they have. They had tons of Halloween costume type stuff on display and I lucked out with this Gryffindor robe (similar).

I think Wyatt is really getting into the role. We got a pack of wands on vacation (because somehow we ended up looking at toys in a Pigeon Forge Walmart) that he’s been putting to good use.

My next stop was the game and puzzle section. This Goodwill has crazy good prices on their games and last time we were there we picked up a Super Why! ABC Letter Game for a steal. It was slim pickings today, but I did find this Equate The Equation Thinking Game Junior Title Set.

It was only a couple bucks so I threw it in the cart. I was really living large today. After a little searching when I got home I found that it’s a sort of expansion set and the game is actually played on a Scrabble type board. So it’s basically math Scrabble, and it seems pretty cool. I don’t know if I’ll get the full blown game, but we can still incorporate the tiles into our math lessons, so it’s a win.

I headed over to the books next, where I spent most of my time. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, just kind of hoping something would jump out at me, when I came across this set of animal tracker books.

Since we just got back from our Smoky Mountains vacation and are still super interested in all things wildlife, I thought they’d be fun to incorporate into some lessons. I was able to find At the Poles, By Lakes and Rivers, By the Seashore, In Fields and Meadows, In the Jungle, and On Safari. I think the only one I’m missing is Down Under, and I might just go ahead and buy it so we can have the full set. After flipping through the books a little more at home they seem even more interesting and educational than I first thought. I’m glad I decided to get them.

I found a couple of other random books while I was looking around too.

The Farm Alphabet Book by Jane Miller, which will be a good read for days when we visit the farm.

And The Magic School Bus Plants Seeds.

My receipt ran off somewhere, but I’m pretty sure my total was around $12 for everything. Not bad for all that!

I’m a relatively new thrift shopper so if you have any tips or tricks on finding the best stuff, I’d love to hear them.

I’d also love for you to checkout my homeschool kindergarten board on Pinterest, as well as our Amazon Homeschool Favorites where I have curated a list of things we genuinely use and love in our homeschool life.

Have a great homeschool day!
